![]() Jean Carpenter traveled to Michigan to care for Harlean, rowing herself across the lake to the camp, but was told that she could not see her daughter. Several weeks later, Skip sent his granddaughter to summer camp at Camp Cha-Ton-Ka, in Michigamme, Michigan, where she became ill with scarlet fever. With their finances dwindling, Jean and Harlean moved back to Kansas City after Skip Harlow issued an ultimatum that he would disinherit his daughter if they did not return. Harlean was enrolled at the Hollywood School for Girls, where she met Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Joel McCrea, and Irene Mayer Selznick, but dropped out at the age of 14, in the spring of 1925. In 1923, the 32-year-old Jean Carpenter took her daughter and moved to Hollywood in hopes of becoming an actress, but was told that she was too old to begin a film career. Although Harlean loved her father, she did not see him often after the divorce. On September 29, 1922, the uncontested divorce was finalized, giving sole custody of Harlean to her mother. When Harlean was at finishing school, her mother filed for a divorce. Jean Carpenter was later known by "Mama Jean" when Harlean achieved star status as Jean Harlow. Her mother was reported to have instilled a sense in her daughter that she owed everything she had to her "She was always all mine!", Mama Jean said of her daughter in interviews. Harlean was always very close to her mother, who was extremely protective. It was not until she was five years old that she learned her real name was Harlean, when staff and students at Miss Barstow's Finishing School for Girls used the name. Harlean was called "The Baby", a nickname to which she was accustomed and which endured for the rest of her life. She was underage at the time and grew resentful and unhappy in the marriage, but the Carpenters remained together living in a Kansas City house owned by her father. In 1908, Skip Harlow arranged his daughter's marriage to Mont Clair Carpenter. Her mother, Jean Poe Carpenter ( née Harlow 1891–1958), was the daughter of wealthy real estate broker Skip Harlow and his wife, Ella Harlow ( née Williams). Carpenter and Dianna ( née Beal), was a dentist who attended dental school in Kansas City. Her father, Mont Clair Carpenter (1877–1974), son of Abraham L. Harlow was born as Harlean Harlow Carpenter in a house located at 3344 Olive Street in Kansas City, Missouri. MGM completed the film with the use of body doubles and released it less than two months after her death it became MGM's most successful film of 1937, as well as the highest-grossing film of her career. She died at the age of 26 of kidney failure while filming Saratoga. Harlow's popularity rivaled and then surpassed that of MGM's top leading ladies Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo and Norma Shearer. ![]() After a series of critically failed films, and Hughes' loss of interest in her career, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer bought out Harlow's contract in 1932 and cast her in leading roles in a string of hits built on her comedic talent: Red-Headed Woman (1932), Red Dust (1932), Dinner at Eight (1933), Reckless (1935) and Suzy (1936). Harlow was first signed by business magnate Howard Hughes, who directed her first major role in Hell's Angels (1930). In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Harlow number 22 on its greatest female screen legends of classical Hollywood cinema list. Harlow was in the film industry for only nine years, but she became one of Hollywood's biggest movie stars, whose image in the public eye has endured. ![]() Often nicknamed the "Blonde Bombshell" and the "Platinum Blonde", Harlow was popular for her "Laughing Vamp" screen persona. Known for her portrayal of "bad girl" characters, she was the leading sex symbol of the early 1930s and one of the defining figures of the pre-Code era of American cinema. In this case, it's usually better to seek help or delegate some of your responsibilities as early as possible to avoid potential delays. Once you've developed a prioritised list of tasks and a schedule, you may discover that you lack the time to complete them all on time. Delegate if necessaryĪn important aspect of efficiency is understanding how much work you're capable of completing within a given time frame. Related: What is time management? (Importance and how to improve it) 4. You can then divide these into smaller sub-tasks, each with its own deadline. With the larger tasks that are going to take some time to complete, you can also break this down with smaller milestones. You can also rework your list of tasks so that each has a deadline. ![]() You can use your work schedule to divide your time between these to ensure that you maintain your deadlines. You might also have a mix of tasks, some of which you can complete in less than a day and some which require regular incremental effort. If you set your schedule, you can ensure that each of your responsibilities receives an adequate amount of your attention. Without a strict schedule, it can be easy to spend too much time on particular tasks or become distracted. You can therefore develop one list for deadlines and another for importance to help you organise your work. This is because you may have less important tasks that are close to their deadline and more important ones that still have some time. In some instances, it can be a good idea to develop two parallel lists. Place the highest-priority tasks at the top of the list and the least at the bottom. Once you've got a list of your various tasks and responsibilities, you can start to rearrange the list in order of priority. This can help you to determine how much you're going to do and whether your workload is reasonable. Depending on your work, it might even be a good idea to develop two lists, namely one for immediate tasks and one for long-term responsibilities and goals. You can make this list daily or for a longer period. For this reason, a good first step is to make a list of all your responsibilities. Create a list of responsibilitiesĮfficiency benefits from an organised approach to your work. To increase your efficiency at work, consider following the steps below: 1. In many cases, increasing efficiency can require extra time and resources initially. These include open-mindedness, creativity and hard work. If you want to work efficiently, it's important to understand the contributory factors and implement them in your work. Related: Effective vs efficient: definitions, differences and tips How to work efficiently ![]() Finally, efficiency requires adaptability and a willingness to change, because only by improving or changing old processes can you surpass their limitations. This is why prioritisation and organisational skills are important contributors to efficiency. It's also important to remember what your goals and objectives are, because how effectively you achieve them is central to how efficient you are. ![]() It's also related to hard work, as reducing waste often requires extra steps and effort. For this reason, efficiency is typically related to creativity and innovation. If you can change your processes to make two tables per week with the same amount of time and materials, you've become twice as efficient.Ĭhanges to work processes are often an integral part of increasing efficiency. For example, assume that you're a carpenter working in a workshop making wooden tables and can make one table per week. These resources could be the physical inputs of your work process or simply the time you spend. Working efficiently typically means that you maximise the outputs or performance of your work, while simultaneously reducing inputs and wasted resources. To authenticate a testimony, two witnesses are needed (Deuteronomy 19:15 cf. Twos are associated with valid testimony. Jesus, by his singular sacrifice, made possible the forgiveness of sins, Mediator and Pastor (1 Timothy 2, 5 John 10, 16) in the life of every Christian. The number 1 also represents the unity between GOD the Father and his Son Jesus (John 10, 30). What is known as Shema (or Shema Yisrael), a quotation from verse four of Deuteronomy 6, 4 which is often used in Jewish prayer services, attests to this fact. It symbolizes in the Bible the unity and primacy, the unity of the Divinity. The number 1 is divisible only by itself and independent of any other number, but it dials them all. The number one represents the unity of the whole and the beginning, as for example in the first Book of Genesis. Numerical interpretations of events, words and names were contained in many ancient languages, religions and philosophies, but Greek and Oriental ideas on numerology do not seem to have permeated Jewish, Christian and Muslim beliefs. ![]() The first example that we find in the Holy Scriptures are the seven days of creation in Genesis in Chapter 1, which should be understood more as a ratio (6 days of creation/work and 1 day of rest) than as a number in itself. Numerologyīiblical numerology is the use of numbers for their symbolic value and for what they represent in biblical texts. In this article we will omit gematry, a much more complex subject, that research that investigates the patterns in some words and phrases in the original language that would reveal a hidden meaning behind the biblical text, offering further proof that GOD, the CREATOR has inspired every single word used in the Book thus announcing His will. While the structure of some is quite obvious, others require a deeper study of the Bible, discovering that each of these numbers has a particular symbolism. In this article, instead, a small explanation of the more generic and basic numerology will be given, without deducing that their understanding can reveal GOD’s work, but it helps to interpret more clearly some biblical passages. In the past these numbers have often been interpreted through suppositions and conjectures, but in most cases they are misleading and too complex.
